Often Overwork, Increase Heart Disease Risk

Often Overwork, Increase Heart Disease Risk
It is widely known, if as an office worker often overtime with an over time can be bad for health. Starting from excessive fatigue, lack of sleep, easier emotions, and the condition of the body more vulnerable to illness. A recent study, revealing the fact often working overtime can also cause heart problems.

People who work 55 hours within a week may experience atrial fiblirilation, irregular heartbeats associated with stroke and other heart problems, compared to workers who work 40 hours within a week. The new analysis, published in the European Heart Journal and conducted by researchers at University College London, combines data from eight previous studies, which include more than 85,000 men and women from the UK, Denmark, Sweden and Finland.

At the time of the study, none of the participants had Atrial Fibrilation (AFib). However, 1,061 people experienced AFib within a period of 10 years later. This figure is equal to 12.4 cases of AFib per 100 people in the study. But, when the researchers looked specifically at those who worked 55 hours a week or more, that number increased to 17.6 per 1000 cases. In other words, those who work longer have 40 percent AFib risk, compared to those who only work 35-40 hours a week. Even the results are the same after adjusting for age, gender, obesity, socioeconomic status, smoking status, risky alcohol consumption, and leisure activity.

Another finding, 90 percent of cases that occur occur in those who have never experienced cardiovascular disorders. So it can be concluded that this is really due to excessive work time, and no previous conditions that could increase the risk of AFib. Nevertheless, the researchers wrote that increasing the risk of AFib in someone who works for a long time, is relatively mild. But for those who already have risk factors such as old age, men, diabetes, or smoking, additional risks can greatly affect.
