Eating in Front of the Television danger While Pregnant

Enjoy a meal while watching television so much fun . However, a recent study found women who eat while watching a higher risk of having a child is overweight .

Researchers found that pregnant women tend to eat more than they and their babies need.

" Reducing television viewing habits and other media exposure can help prevent obesity in early childhood , " said study leader Dr. Mary Jo Messito .

Dr. Messito and his colleagues analyzed data from the Early Starting the project , namely the scheme of early childhood obesity prevention for low-income Hispanic families in the New York University School of Medicine .


Women who participated in the study were pregnant and the mother - child pairs studied until the child is three years old. Women received nutrition counseling during pregnancy , caring for the baby after birth and the support group led by a nutritionist.

A total of 189 women were asked how often they watch TV during meals during the three semesters of pregnancy . When the baby is three months old , mothers were asked how often their babies watch TV while eating .

The results showed that 71 percent of pregnant women reported eating while watching television , and 33 percent of mothers reported their children were fed while watching television .

The researchers found that pregnant women who eat in front of the television five times more likely to expose their children to television than women who do not watch television while eating .

The mothers aged under 25 years and not exclusively breastfeed also tend to feed a child in front of the television .

" Identifying specific maternal behaviors associated with child TV viewing during meals will help prevent early childhood obesity , " he said, as reported by the Daily Mail .
